Rand Paul wins CPAC straw poll

Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul followed in the footsteps of his dad this afternoon, and won CPAC's annual presidential straw poll.

It wasn't a surprising win.

Over half of all participants were between the ages of 18 years-old and 25 years-old, and 2/3 of all participants were male.

In other words, "libertarian kids in their dorm rooms" -- as John McCain called Rand's filibuster supporters -- came heavily to Paul's aid, just as they did in 2010 and 2011 for Ron.

Here are the results:

1. Rand Paul 25%

2. Marco Rubio 23%

3. Rick Santorum 8%

4. Chris Christie 7%

5. Paul Ryan 6%

6. Scott Walker 5%

7. Ben Carson and Ted Cruz 4%

9. Bobby Jindal and Sarah Palin 3%

What's notable?

Chris Christie, despite being snubbed and mocked sporadically throughout conference, managed a 4th place showing.

Still, don't read too much into this. It's non-scientific and hardly reflective of a national cross-section of GOP voters.
